Description

Jenny Ferris has been singing professionally in the Bay Area for many years, and has released two albums.

In the 80’s Jenny recorded “Not So Long Ago” with some of the best local jazz musicians around at that time, including pianist Bryce Rohde and saxophonist Chuck Clark. The album was well received critically, notably by Phil Elwood of the San Francisco Examiner.

More recently, in 2006, Jenny released “Day In Day Out: Jenny Ferris sings Johnny Mercer”, a cd which grew out of a series of Bay Area concerts performed by Jenny and a quartet led by pianist Laura Klein, with arrangements by Laura and composer/guitarist Tony Corman. This album was prominently featured on the official website Johnny Mercer Educational Archives for several months, and has a permanent slot on the website as well.

Jenny has performed at many Bay Area music venues over the years, including the old Yoshi’s in Berkeley, where her first cd release party was held, and San Francisco Yoshi’s lounge. She has also performed at Uptown, the Hillside Club, Anna’s, San Francisco’s Community Music Center, Bird and Beckett, Bird’s Nest and many other venues. She currently is part of a roster of singers performing at the Sausalito Seahorse with Bay Area saxophonist Noel Jewkes and a host of other fine jazz musicians.

Jenny’s musical taste is eclectic, but she is best known for her respectful musical treatment of well beloved, as well as obscure, songs from the Great American Songbook. She aims to present as an authentic, but accessible, mainstream jazz singer.

Jenny’s Johnny Mercer cd can be ordered from her via email, or from cdbaby.com, which also has music samples and additional biographical information. She has a Facebook page, accessible by googling Jenny Ferris jazz.
